Kelly Clarkson has recently opened up about her weight loss journey, revealing that it was a result of being diagnosed as pre-diabetic a couple of years ago. During Monday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 41-year-old host shared that she wasn’t “shocked” by the diagnosis, as she had noticed that she was “a tiny bit overweight.” But it wasn’t until two years later that she decided to take action.
The popular TV host, singer, and mother of two credits her on-the-go activities with her kids for helping her get in shape. In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, Clarkson stated, “We go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We’ll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We’ll go make slime and we go to the museum. Walking in the city is quite the workout.” Additionally, she shared that she has recently started incorporating infrared saunas and cold plunges into her routine as well.
But it’s not just her physical activities that have contributed to her weight loss. Clarkson also mentioned that she has been listening to her doctor’s advice and following a healthy diet. “I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!” she joked.
Clarkson’s weight loss journey has been a topic of discussion throughout her career. In November 2023, while talking on her show about her “many stages” of being heavier than she would have preferred, she mentioned the struggles of finding jeans that fit her smaller waist and bigger butt. However, she has always been confident in her body and has not let any negative comments affect her self-esteem.

Despite the media constantly scrutinizing her weight, Clarkson has always remained positive and focused on her health. In an interview with PEOPLE in November 2017, she shared, “Even on American Idol I was really thin, but I was bigger than the other girls on the show, so people would say things to me. But luckily I am super confident, so I’ve never had a problem with shutting people down and saying, ‘Yeah, you know, that’s just what I’m rocking. It’s fine.'”
Clarkson’s honesty and confidence have been an inspiration to many, as she continues to promote body positivity and self-love. Her recent weight loss not only reveals her commitment to living a healthier lifestyle but also serves as a reminder to others that health should be the main focus, rather than societal beauty standards.
According to the American Diabetes Association, around 88 million adults in the United States have pre-diabetes, and 84% of them are unaware of their condition. Clarkson’s story sheds light on the importance of regular check-ups and taking action towards preventing potential health issues.
As the host of her own daytime talk show, Clarkson has used her platform to discuss various topics and share her personal experiences with her audience. Her vulnerability and honesty have made her relatable to many and have garnered a strong following of fans who look up to her as a role model.
