Happy New Year y’all! If you’re anything like me, you definitely needed a little extra sparkle and shine to ring in 2023. But if you’re anything like the legendary Dolly Parton and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, you got that and more as they co-hosted NBC’s New Year’s Eve special, Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party.
Dolly and Miley kicked things off with a rousing performance of ‘I Love Rock N’ Roll,’ and even though Dolly’s 76, she rocked the stage in her leather catsuit and platform heels like it was no big deal. (Can we get an amen for Dolly’s confidence?) She even held her own with Miley who was in a mini dress with cutouts and thong, no less!
Later in the evening, Dolly and Miley returned to perform “Wrecking Ball” and “I Will Always Love You.” As if that weren’t enough, they also had a chat with Hoda Kotb during the ‘A Toast to 2022’ special. Miley shared that Dolly had given her some advice about listening to others and not just herself. (You go, Dolly!)
During NBC’s A Toast to 2022! special, Miley told Hoda Kotb that Dolly helped her decide on a resolution this year. Miley said, “I guess my resolution would really be — my instinct is very loud, but I’m not a great listener sometimes. Dolly was telling me, her husband [Carl Thomas Dean] says, ‘You’re not hard of hearing. You’re hard of listening.’ And I guess that would kind of be my resolution, to not just listen to myself, but listen to others.”
Of course, 2022 wasn’t all champagne and confetti for the country music icon. The year included the loss of her dear friend and fellow country legend Loretta Lynn, as well as the controversy around Dolly’s Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame induction. But the year ended on a high note for Dolly when she received the Bezos Courage and Civility Award worth $100 million from Jeff Bezos and pledged to use the money to do good.
