Well, folks, it looks like Ivanka Trump is officially out of the political game—for now, at least. After serving as a senior advisor to her father, President Donald Trump, during his first term, she’s making it clear that she won’t be heading back to the White House for round two.
And why? Because, as she puts it, she’s not willing to let her kids bear the cost of life in politics.
In a revealing conversation on “The Skinny Confidential’s “Him+Her”” podcast, Ivanka didn’t mince words about her decision. “The main reason I am not going back to serve now is, I know the cost,” she told hosts Lauryn and Michael Bosstick.
And that cost, she explained, is one she’s not willing to pass on to her children. Instead, her focus is on being, as she puts it, “the best freaking mom.” After missing too many moments while working in the Trump administration, she vowed that once she left, she wouldn’t let it happen again.
But beyond family concerns, Ivanka gave a rare glimpse into how she really feels about the political world—and let’s just say, she’s not a fan. “I love policy and impact. I hate politics,” she admitted. “There is a darkness to that world that I don’t really want to welcome into mine.” She called it a “very dark, negative business,” reinforcing the idea that she’s more than happy to leave it behind.
Since her father’s 2020 loss, Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, have settled in Florida, far away from the Washington spotlight. And for Trump’s potential second term, she’s looking forward to being a daughter, not an advisor. “I think I’m most looking forward to just being able to show up for him as a daughter and be there for him to take his mind off things,” she shared.
Whether that means watching a movie, catching a sports game, or just giving her father a break from the pressures of leadership, she wants to offer support without the political baggage.
Of course, Ivanka and Jared’s time in the White House wasn’t without controversy. Critics accused them of using their positions to boost their own profiles, and some argue that their political ambitions backfired.
Elizabeth Spiers, a former editor-in-chief of the “Observer”, put it bluntly: “The Trump administration was so horrible—and they were so complicit in the badness of it—that it sort of had the opposite effect. The type of people they were trying to impress when they left won’t have anything to do with them.”
So, is this the end of Ivanka Trump’s time in the political arena? For now, it certainly seems that way. But if there’s one thing the Trumps are known for, it’s making a comeback when people least expect it.
