Folks, have I got a story for you today! Imagine being on stage, giving the performance of your life, when suddenly—whoops!—your pants decide they’ve had enough. That’s exactly what happened to country star Lainey Wilson during her set at the Faster Horses music festival in Brooklyn, Michigan, on Saturday, July 20.
Lainey, 32, was in the middle of entertaining the crowd when her purple pants split right open. And yes, the moment was captured on camera and quickly shared on social media.
Talk about an unexpected show! “Y’all just about got a real show,” Lainey joked to the audience in a video posted on TikTok. She added, “There’s a first time for everything and I’m glad it was y’all that I split my pants wide open in front of.”
Initially unaware of the wardrobe malfunction, Lainey continued performing until her team alerted her to the situation. She was originally sporting some eye-catching purple pants paired with a matching cowboy hat and a black leather vest adorned with silver buttons. But after the split, she quickly changed into some dark jeans.
Once she swapped out the pants, Lainey took a moment to laugh about the incident while sitting on a big truck onstage. “You can’t make that up! I’d have never known had my people back here not seen it,” she exclaimed.
Then, showing her down-to-earth charm, she told the cheering crowd, “I’ve got some new pants on. I tell you what, try to put on some jeans when you’re sweating. It ain’t fun. You gotta jump in them things.” Despite the mishap, she was ready to get back to business, cheering, “We are gonna have the time of our lives!”
Lainey later took to TikTok herself, sharing a humorous video of her squatting in a new pair of brown, fringed western-style jeans, complete with a cowboy hat.
“Adding this into my routine before a show so my britches don’t rip like they did last night at Faster Horses,” she joked, squatting up and down to make sure her new pants were up to the task.
The “Watermelon Moonshine” hitmaker also shared a sweet memory of seeing Taylor Swift perform at CMA Fest when they were both teenagers. “I actually watched her perform at CMA Fest on the Riverfront stage when she was probably 15. I was 14, and I remember just thinking, man, this girl’s future is bright,” Lainey gushed. She even got to tell Taylor about this experience years later, discovering that the admiration was mutual.
Despite the pants-splitting surprise, Lainey continues to rock her “Country’s Cool Again Tour,” which kicked off in late May and will keep rolling through North America until December. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Lainey Wilson knows how to handle anything life throws her way—with humor, grace, and a whole lot of country charm.
