Love knows no boundaries, and the story of Vickie and Graham is proof of that. This couple has a remarkable and unique story of how they met and fell in love, eventually leading to their 40th wedding anniversary.
Vickie and Graham first met when they were both 22, traveling to London on a World Airways flight. Vickie and her best friend Sandra had booked standby tickets—not knowing what this meant—hoping to get the cheapest fare. Although Sandra was allowed on board first, Vickie was the last one to get a seat on the plane and was seated next to Graham.
The two got to know each other during the seven-hour flight, and Graham regaled Vickie and Sandra with stories about England. When they arrived in London, Graham helped them transport their luggage and gave them their first British cup of tea.
The next Saturday, Graham returned to London and he, Vickie, Sandra and Jim went on a sightseeing day around the city. It was on the escalator to exit the London Underground station that Vickie and Graham had a strange encounter with a stranger who told them they were both Scorpios and would make great love and be together always.
This encounter proved to be prophetic, as Graham proposed to Vickie a few months later and the two married in December 1982. After Graham finished law school in the UK, they moved to the US, and have been happily married for 40 years.
To commemorate their anniversary, Vickie and Graham recreated the photo they took the day they met, posed with their arms around each other, smiling. Vickie and Graham reflect on the unlikely chain of events that had to happen for them to meet, and the fact that they are still together after 40 years is a testament to the power of love.
