Country superstar Blake Shelton has revealed his New Year’s resolution: to stop drinking altogether or at least cut back. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 47-year-old singer opened up about his struggle with alcohol and his hopes for the future.
Shelton, who is known for his hits such as “God’s Country” and “God Gave Me You,” admitted that he has been trying to cut back on drinking for a while now, but has found it difficult to do so. When asked about how he plans to spend New Year’s Eve with his wife, singer Gwen Stefani, and her three children from a previous marriage, Shelton shared that they usually prefer to go to bed early rather than stay up for the celebrations.
However, the “God’s Country” hitmaker went on to share that his New Year’s resolution is to cut back or stop drinking altogether. “Even cutting back has been hard,” Shelton said. “But that’s my goal for the upcoming year.”
The superstar couple will not be spending New Year’s Eve together as Stefani has a scheduled performance in Las Vegas. The “Sweet Escape” singer, who recently tied the knot with Shelton in an intimate ceremony at his ranch in Oklahoma, shared that she has a gig in Vegas and will be flying in and out for it.
Shelton and Stefani’s relationship began on the set of the reality competition “The Voice” in 2014, where they both served as coaches. After years of dating, the couple finally made their relationship official in July 2021.
In their interview, Shelton also reflected on their first New Year’s Eve as a married couple, noting that it was special to start the new year with a new title. “Last year when we were counting down to the new year, I was still boyfriend. This year, I’ll be husband, so it feels good,” he shared.
While their New Year’s Eve plans may be separate, it’s clear that Shelton and Stefani are both focused on their goals for the upcoming year, with Shelton vowing to work on his sobriety and Stefani continuing to perform and entertain audiences.
