The Wonder Years’ Star Shares How Faith Transformed Her Life

Danica McKellar, the beloved star from “The Wonder Years,” recently opened up about how finding faith has transformed her life, especially when it comes to parenting her son. In an interview with Fox News, McKellar revealed that since embracing her Christian faith two and a half years ago, she’s found a newfound confidence and peace in raising her 13-year-old son, Draco.

The 49-year-old actress admitted that before her spiritual awakening, she often found herself consumed with stress and anxiety, constantly second-guessing her decisions. “I used to spend time worrying and stressing about how to make decisions and what to do next,” McKellar shared.

But her faith journey has given her a sense of calm, allowing her to trust in a higher power for guidance during challenging times. “Faith guides everything, including parenting,” she said. “For me, my faith journey has led me to the most comforting place of knowing that I can consult with God at any time.”

McKellar also spoke about how her faith has added new meaning to her daily life, particularly in how she approaches obstacles. She emphasized how reading the Bible and understanding scripture has provided her with a spiritual foundation that helps her face life’s inevitable challenges.

“When Bible scripture is mentioned in church, I know what it is now,” she explained, adding that having a relationship with God helps her feel at peace even when life doesn’t go according to plan. “Knowing it’s in God’s hands, even when things happen that I don’t think I want to have happen, I can say, ‘Well, let me be curious about this and wonder what the big plan is that I can’t see.'”

The shift in perspective has been a game-changer for McKellar, who describes the journey as “amazing” and filled with a sense of relief she didn’t have before. Earlier this year, the actress spoke about the life-altering experience that led her to faith, crediting fellow actress Candace Cameron Bure for introducing her to church in 2021.

McKellar reflected on how attending a Palm Sunday service with Bure changed her life in an instant. “I don’t know what happened… All I know is that I became a believer, and it was the most wonderful, transformative moment.”

Her faith, McKellar says, continues to provide a sense of peace and purpose, especially during significant moments like Easter. She explained that the holiday, symbolizing “redemption and rebirth,” holds special meaning in her personal spiritual journey. “I was flooded with this knowingness, and I have such peace from that still after two years, and I’m so grateful for it,” McKellar said.

McKellar’s faith not only impacts her personal growth but also her role as a mother to Draco, whom she shares with her ex-husband, composer Mike Verta. Since their divorce in 2013, McKellar has remarried, tying the knot with attorney Scott Sveslosky in 2014. Through all of life’s ups and downs, McKellar credits her faith as the cornerstone of her strength, helping her navigate both motherhood and the complexities of life with grace and confidence.

Her story is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of faith, and how embracing it can lead to greater peace and purpose in everyday life.
