A Tesla vehicle erupted in flames within a high-end auto yard located in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County, igniting local firefighters to voice criticism towards Tesla CEO Elon Musk on social media. As reported by FOX KTVU, the incident occurred last week when a Tesla car, salvaged from flood-ravaged Florida, suddenly combusted after months of sitting dormant in the yard. The ensuing blaze presented a challenge to the Sacramento firefighters, who were hindered from moving the vehicle to a safer location for controlled burning due to its precarious surroundings amidst a collection of luxury vehicles, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Bentleys.
Seeking to bring attention to the situation, the Metro Fire of Sacramento took to Twitter and tagged Elon Musk in a tweet regarding the fire. However, the CEO did not respond to the department’s outreach on his own social media platform.
The incident has since incited a contentious debate across social media platforms, with individuals sharing a spectrum of opinions concerning Tesla and its enigmatic CEO. Amidst the discourse, one individual tweeted, “Another randomly exploding Tesla to keep our firefighters busy,” while a Musk supporter questioned the rationale behind singling out the CEO in this particular incident, stating, “Why tag @elonmusk when none of your other vehicle fire posts tag the CEO of the vehicle manufacturer?”
This marks not the first time that the Metro Fire of Sacramento has confronted a blazing Tesla. In January, a Tesla Model S car’s battery caught fire along eastbound Highway 50, compelling the department to deploy a staggering “6,000 gallons of water to put it out.”
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the safety and stability of Tesla vehicles, particularly in scenarios involving fire-related incidents. The salvage history of the car raises questions about potential latent defects and vulnerabilities, while the challenges faced by the firefighters in handling the blaze underscore the unique characteristics of electric vehicle fires.
