Wilson took to social media to share the special moment with fans, posting a heartwarming photo of Hanks presenting her with a cake on Instagram and Twitter. The snapshot captures the actor looking at his wife with adoration, holding a cake decorated with yellow frosted flowers and the words “Happy Anniversary” written on top. Sitting beside him, Wilson smiles at the delicious dessert, her hand resting on her cheek.
Hanks and Wilson first met on the set of ABC’s sitcom Bosom Buddies in 1981, and their relationship dates back four decades. Though they were just friends at first, they went public with their romance in 1986, two years after Hanks split from his college sweetheart Samantha Lewes. They later tied the knot in 1988 and went on to have two children together, Chester “Chet” Hanks and Truman Theodore Hanks. Wilson is also a stepmom to Hanks’ older children, Colin and Elizabeth.
In an interview with PEOPLE in December, Wilson opened up about slowing down her music career to be a present mother to her children when they were young and support her husband’s flourishing acting career. Wilson said, “I slowed down my work because I really wanted to be the mom that was there when they got home, drove the carpool, and did all those things…If both of us were working and not home, my kids would have been affected. I wouldn’t call slowing down my career a sacrifice, I would call it a choice.”
Despite Hanks’ growing fame and success, Wilson has always remained supportive of her husband’s career. She said, “Tom and I have always been supportive of each other and what we do…I remember doing press junkets back in the day, and interviewers would say to me, ‘Gosh, it must be so difficult to be with someone so famous.’ I would think, ‘Why are they saying that?’ Then I realized that the question was more about them and how they would feel in that situation than me.”
