Reese Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Toth, have decided to divorce after 11 years of marriage. The couple, who was married in 2011, released a joint statement Friday announcing the news.
“We have some personal news to share… It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said. “We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together.”
The statement added: “Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
The couple has a 10-year-old son, Tennessee James, and Witherspoon also shares two kids with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe: daughter Ava, 23, and son Deacon, 19.
Witherspoon and Toth first met in 2010 after Witherspoon’s breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal. The Oscar-winning actress recalled their first meeting in an interview with ELLE, saying that Toth had been a “really good friend” who pulled a drunk guy away from her.
The couple became engaged in December 2010 and married in a laid-back ceremony on her ranch in Ojai, California, in March 2011.
In July, Witherspoon shared photos of herself with Toth on his birthday, writing in the caption, “Happy birthday to my sweet hubby, JT! Don’t know anyone who loves Tour de France / road biking / @arsenal / @nashvillesc / @steelers …. oh and GOLF … basically all sports more than YOU. Love you so much!”
