Lori Loughlin is stepping back into the limelight, set to appear in her first major television role since the college admissions scandal that landed her in headlines (and briefly, in jail).
Loughlin, known widely for her role as Aunt Becky on “Full House” and later “When Calls the Heart”, will return in a significant way in the upcoming Dick Wolf police drama “On Call”. The series is set to debut on Prime Video on January 9, 2025, and marks her most prominent role since her legal troubles.
“On Call”, an eight-episode series produced by the powerhouse team at Wolf Entertainment, is expected to follow the signature high-intensity drama style that fans of Wolf’s “Law & Order’, “Chicago”, and “FBI” series will recognize.
Loughlin will be joining a strong ensemble cast, including “Pretty Little Liars” star Troian Bellisario, Brandon Larracuente from “The Good Doctor”, “ER” alum Eriq La Salle, and Rich Ting from “Tulsa King”. Together, they’re set to bring the show’s gritty world to life in half-hour episodes, blending visceral storytelling with fast-paced police work.
For Loughlin, the role of Lieutenant Bishop represents both a professional milestone and a comeback after her stint in jail due to the infamous Operation Varsity Blues scandal.
The college admissions scandal, which shook the public and the entertainment industry, involved hefty bribes to secure spots for her daughters at prestigious universities.
Alongside actress Felicity Huffman, Loughlin became a symbol of the scandal’s far-reaching consequences when she served a two-month sentence in 2020.
Since then, she’s returned to acting through smaller, more conservative roles on the GAC network, but “On Call” promises to bring her back to a mainstream audience. The new role provides her a fresh start in Hollywood, and perhaps the opportunity to redefine her career and public image.
With Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf at the creative helm, and production from Universal TV and Amazon MGM Studios, the show could be a chance for Loughlin to reclaim her place on the television landscape and rebuild her legacy.
As January 2025 approaches, fans will be watching to see if this role can help Loughlin put her past behind her, as she steps into a gritty new character in the world of law enforcement.
