Demi Moore is sharing a heartfelt update on Bruce Willis’ ongoing health challenges, offering a glimpse into how her former husband and their family are navigating his battle with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Speaking with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on December 5, Moore reflected on the difficulties and silver linings of their journey.
“Given the givens, he’s in a very stable place at the moment,” Moore shared, emphasizing the importance of embracing the reality of the situation.
“It’s so important for anybody who’s dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at.” From that perspective, Moore explained, “there is such loving and joy,” even in the face of tremendous loss.
Willis, 69, stepped away from acting in 2022 after his aphasia diagnosis made communication increasingly challenging. A year later, his condition was further clarified as frontotemporal dementia, a progressive disorder marked by the atrophy of certain brain lobes. Despite the severity of these conditions, Moore highlighted the moments of beauty and connection that have emerged.
Moore and Willis share three daughters—Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30—from their 13-year marriage, which ended amicably in 2000.
Reflecting on their enduring bond, Moore said, “We’ll always be a family, just in a different form.” That form, she noted, continues to evolve as their blended family works together to support Willis.
The actor is now married to Emma Heming Willis, with whom he shares two younger daughters, Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10. Moore expressed gratitude for the collective effort to maintain a unified family front, describing it as “lovely” and essential.
While Moore acknowledged the “great loss” her family has endured, she also pointed to the profound gifts that have come from this experience. “There is also great beauty,” she said, a sentiment that underscores the resilience of a family determined to find light in even the darkest moments.
For Moore, the journey with Willis’ health challenges is a poignant reminder of the power of love, adaptation, and connection in the face of life’s most unpredictable trials.
