An adorable deer decided to visit old friends in high places. Though the deer is now growing into an independent buck, “Oakley” as his friends named him – once needed a little help to learn how to care for himself.
As a young fawn, the deer needed special care and wasn’t going to be able to survive on his own in the wild. Thankfully, country singer and songwriter, Travis Tritt and his wife, Theresa, found the poor abandoned deer near his 45-acre home in Georgia and vowed to nurse him back to health.
“This is Oakley,” Tritt’s Twitter post read. “He was an orphaned deer that my wife bottle raised as a baby.”
“I had not seen him in years until he snuck up behind me as I was walking my property tonight,” the post continued. “He obviously remembered me and knew I wasn’t a threat. Nature is amazing!”
In the video, Oakley, at first a little tentative, can be seen receiving love from Tritt.
“That’s a good boy,” Tritt says. “You’re just a baby, aren’t you?”
Oakley continues to show that he remembers their love for him by allowing Tritt to pet him. He even licked Tritt’s arm with affection. It’s clear the two share a special bond.
Oakley first showed up on Tritt’s porch in August 2021.
Tritt said in a previous Instagram post, “This little guy was hanging with me while I had my morning coffee today. My wife named him Oakley. So cute!”

Over a year later, It’s clear that Oakley still remembers the kind humans who saved him. What a beautiful way to say thank you and see the bond between a man and an animal.
