Hello everyone, let’s dive into a bit of drama from the shores of Galveston, Texas, where a beachfront home owned by Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mother, is set to be demolished. This $1.4 million house has been in disrepair for nearly 20 years, with significant damage from Hurricane Ike back in 2008. Now, Texas officials are stepping in to address this long-standing issue.
Located in the affluent enclave of Pirate’s Beach, Galveston, this home is in an area where residents are expected to maintain a certain standard, including country club memberships.
However, Knowles’ home has stood out for all the wrong reasons. It’s literally the only property on the sand and has become an eyesore for the community.
Local residents have mixed feelings about the house’s state. Richard D’Antoni remarked, “I mean obviously, it’s a little bit of an eyesore. Depending upon your perspective, a lot of an eyesore.” James Munoz, another neighbor, pointed out structural issues, saying, “The slab has fallen. It’s fallen worse just from last week’s storm.” The house’s poor condition has led to concerns about a potential collapse, especially with the tide often reaching the bottom of the house.
Despite the obvious need for repairs, it’s unclear why Knowles hasn’t addressed the city’s requests. The City of Galveston even offered her $150,000 to relocate the property due to the hurricane damage, but no action has been taken so far.
Local officials, including city council member Marie Robb, are worried about the safety risks. Robb stated, “I’m concerned at least the deck, or a good portion of the house could collapse, which is why we’re moving forward with the demolition. Considering it’s 2024 and Hurricane Ike was in 2008, I’d say we’ve given them more than ample time to respond.” A demolition order could be issued within 60 days.
While the house might not meet community standards, Tina Knowles has recently shown her love for Galveston. She defended the island after Charles Barkley made disparaging comments about its beaches, calling the water “dirty.”
In response, Knowles proudly declared her affection for her hometown, clapping back at Barkley on Instagram. This public defense has earned her admiration from the locals, despite the state of her property.
Munoz summed up the community’s sentiments, saying, “Yeah, I saw Tina’s response, and we love her for that response because we love Galveston, but Barkley probably wouldn’t have any nice words to say about the condition of this house.”
So, as we await the next steps, it’s clear that Tina Knowles’ home has stirred quite a bit of attention and controversy. What do you think about this situation? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
