Ben Affleck couldn’t hold back his admiration for Jennifer Lopez’s acting in the upcoming sports drama “Unstoppable”, where she plays Judy Robles, the mother of Arizona State University wrestling champion Anthony Robles.
The 52-year-old actor and director, who serves as a producer on the film, praised Lopez’s dedication and “spectacular” performance. “Jennifer is spectacular,” he told “Entertainment Tonight”. In a rare appearance together, Affleck was joined by his longtime friend and production partner Matt Damon, as well as Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy, discussing the movie’s creative journey and the high-caliber talent behind it.
Directed by Oscar-winning editor William Goldenberg, “Unstoppable” has been eagerly awaited by audiences and features a notable cast including Jharrel Jerome as Anthony Robles, along with Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, and Don Cheadle.
The film tells the compelling true story of Anthony Robles, who despite being born with one leg, became an NCAA wrestling champion. With the movie set for a December 6 release, fans are excited to see Lopez in this transformative role, especially given Affleck’s ringing endorsement.
Affleck and Lopez have worked together before, notably on 2003’s “Gigli” and 2004’s “Jersey Girl”, during their original relationship nearly two decades ago. Since rekindling their romance in 2021 and tying the knot in 2022, the pair has remained in the spotlight, even through recent challenges, including their divorce proceedings.
Yet, despite their personal ups and downs, Affleck has been vocal about his pride in Lopez’s work. Reflecting on working alongside her in “Unstoppable”, he described their partnership as a joy, noting that having a supportive work environment makes “a pretty good life.”
Lopez herself has shared insights into her approach to the role and the strength she’s drawn from her own life experiences. In an interview with “Interview” magazine, she spoke about her journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.
“My whole life I’ve just been trying to say I’m good enough,” she reflected, now finding peace in knowing her worth. Lopez credits her resilience for getting through tough times, a quality she’s carried into her portrayal of Judy Robles, a character grounded in unwavering support for her son’s dreams.
With “Unstoppable” soon to hit theaters, Affleck and Lopez’s latest collaboration has already garnered attention for both the real-life inspiration it celebrates and the personal and professional bond it represents.
For Lopez, this role could be another career-defining performance, while for Affleck, the project marks a continued dedication to storytelling through his and Damon’s production company, Artists Equity. As he put it, “Unstoppable” exemplifies the kind of films they’re “really, really proud of” – ones rooted in passion and crafted by a team of committed artists.
