You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried! Picture this: a quiet Monday in Bay Village, Ohio, turns into a scene right out of a slapstick comedy, as two police officers find themselves in a not-so-typical face-off with a giant, runaway pumpkin.
That’s right, a huge inflatable Jack-O-Lantern decided to take a little trip down the streets during a storm, causing traffic chaos and making for one seriously entertaining police dashcam video.
On October 14, a storm had swept through the area, and apparently, it had different plans for the Halloween decorations. A massive inflatable pumpkin broke free from someone’s yard, barreling down the street and taking over two lanes of traffic like it was auditioning for its own action movie. Bay Village police were dispatched to deal with the “runaway pumpkin,” and that’s when the real fun began.
In dashcam footage shared by the Bay Village Police Department, under the cheeky title “Bay Village Officer Attacked Over Halloween Display!!”, you can see an officer bravely step out of his cruiser to take on the big orange invader. The pumpkin, with its crooked teeth and glowing grin, looked more than ready for a showdown.
The officer reaches for the tether strings flapping from the top of the pumpkin, and just like that—”poof!”—he’s gone. The officer gets swallowed whole by the oversized inflatable, disappearing from view for a good 20 seconds as the pumpkin just rolls over him like it’s in charge of the whole scene.
As if that wasn’t enough, the pumpkin then decides to take on the officer’s cruiser, rolling head-on into the windshield, its green stem tapping the glass like a mischievous prankster. The eerie glow of the pumpkin’s grin in the headlights just added to the hilarity of the situation.
Backup arrives on the scene, and another officer radios in, “Oh yeah, I see it… Where do you want me?” At this point, the backup officer must’ve thought it was a Halloween trick gone wrong. As the second police SUV pulls up, the pumpkin, clearly not done causing trouble, makes a beeline for the new arrival, bumping into the vehicle and pushing the officers back toward their cars. It’s like the pumpkin was having way too much fun to stop now.
Eventually, with the help of a civilian who started pulling on the loose strings, the two officers managed to wrangle the rebellious pumpkin off the road. It took about a full minute of careful coordination, but they finally dragged it onto a patch of grass where it could do no more harm.

The best part? No officers (or pumpkins) were harmed in this bizarre adventure. The Bay Village Police Department had a good sense of humor about the whole thing, confirming in their statement that the Great Pumpkin had been safely returned to its owner.
