Jennifer Lawrence may be one of the most well-known actresses and have an Oscar under her belt, but it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
Lawrence, 32, has had roles in some of the biggest films in the last decade, including “The Hunger Games” franchise, “Silver Linings Playbook,” and “Don’t Look Up.”
However, the actress admitted to making some poor decisions throughout her career, one of which was starring in the 2016 sci-fi film, “Passengers.”
Starring alongside Chris Pratt, Lawrence quickly realized that the film was not going to be a box-office success. The film racked up endless negative reviews and scored a pitiful 30% on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you’ve never heard of the movie, you’re probably not alone. “Passengers” is a high-stakes adventure about two passengers who board a spaceship that will transport them to a new life on another planet. However, the trip takes a fatal turn when their hibernation pods wake them 90 years before they are supposed to reach their destination. As they try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they discover that the ship itself is in grave danger. With the lives of 5,000 sleeping passengers at stake, only they can save them all.
Lawerence told The New York Times how she felt when she realized the movie wasn’t that great. She said, “I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?’”
Supposedly, the famous singer Adele advised against taking the role. Lawrence revealed that it was sound advice that she should have taken but ultimately ignored.
“Adele told me not to do it. She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her,” Lawrence said, adding, “Everything was like a rebound effect. I was reacting, rather than just acting.”
“I felt like more of a celebrity than an actor, cut off from my creativity, my imagination,” Lawrence added.
Lawrence revealed that she suffered from burnout after landing the role of a lifetime in “The Hunger Games”. She continued to say that she felt she “lost control” of her career.
“I think I lost a sense of control. Between The Hunger Games coming out and winning the Oscar [for Silver Linings Playbook],” she told Variety. “I became such a commodity that I felt like every decision was a big, big group decision.”
